I was the primary designer for NIET's project to create an app that can be used as a progress tracker for the teachers taking leadership courses through NIET's extensive teacher excellence program. The primary goals for the project are:
On the home page, users are able to see a featured upcoming session, a tip of the day that allows users to see a small affirmation or helpful hint of one of the categories. Users are also able to see their progression of each badge that represents the categories:
The next thing users see is a list of upcoming sessions.
One of the goals was to to make the process of finding and scheduling sessions easier. I researched different event scheduling apps (Meetup, Eventbrite, Ticket, etc.) to learn about the best way that the event information is displayed to users. One of the things I noticed is that most event apps display each event in cards, showing the location based on where the user is. Under each of the event cards, there are icons to show users which category the classes qualify. When a user has already registered for a course, they are shown a check mark on the card.
The gamification of the app is how the users are able to keep track of their projects. The badges are disabled until a user has taken the courses under each category. Adding badges for each of the course category makes it easier for users to associate the icons with the categories. Each of the categories has key points that explains the what each category offers. If users have additional questions about a course, they are able to speak to an export. This gives users the option to communicate with more experienced teachers. Users are also able to receive exclusive content after finishing a course. After finishing each course, they are able to request their certificate to have it mailed to them.
